Our SEDEX members ethical trade audit (SMETA) helps to reduce duplication of effort in ethical trade auditing, reduce risks, and drive collaboration with customers and suppliers.
The Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (SEDEX) is a web-based system designed to help organizations manage data on practices in their supply chain. Sedex members have agreed a common methodology to improve audit standards and promote mutual acceptance of audit reports. SMETA review performance against the ETI base code and how it is spread to employees and the supply chain, relevant local laws, environmental performance, treatment of any subcontractors/homeworkers, eligibility to work, and how well the ETI base code is understood by employees and the supply chain.
Sedex members have the benefit of being able to publish their SMETA audit reports directly on the SEDEX system for viewing by all customers. The main advantage for registered Sedex members to have an ethical audit is that suppliers and buyers can do business in the knowledge that their business partners operate in a socially responsible fashion. The Sedex system plus the ethical audit thus creates trust based upon transparency.
