1-Day SMETA Foundation Workshop
The 1-day SMETA Foundation is primarily designed for auditors who are either new to the SMETA methodology or would like to refresh their knowledge of it. However, it is also useful to anyone with social auditing experience, including ethical trade managers, social compliance managers and internal auditors. The session focuses on helping you understand and use the materials available to conduct a SMETA audit.
The workshop is not intended to replace any formal training in social auditing skills. Therefore, it is only open to people who have previously had some auditor skills training and experience as an auditor.
In this workshop you will learn:
- How to use the SMETA Best Practice Guidance, Measurement Criteria, Report and CAPR
- What additional Sedex/SMETA resources can support the SMETA audit

Additional 2nd day SMETA training session
An additional 1-day training session SMETA & Dutch Legal Framework for Workers’ Rights will complete your understanding of key aspects to take into account when conducting a SMETA audit in the Netherlands. You will learn more about the connections between key requirements of the ETI Base Code and Dutch regulatory requirements to help ensure equal opportunities for all women and men to have decent and productive work, in conditions of freedom, equity, security, and dignity. We will deep dive into the national legal requirements for the following principles and rights at work that all suppliers have an obligation to respect and promote, which are:
- Safe working conditions for all workers
- Decent wages and benefits;
- Freedom of association/Effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining and the Works Council;
- No Excessive Working Hours;
- Elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
The workshop character of the training provides the opportunity to discuss open questions and exchange ideas with other participants. Language for the training is Dutch (documentation is in English).

The 1 – day SMETA Foundation Workshop costs € 500,- (exclusive VAT 21%) per delegate per session. The 2 – days SMETA Foundation + Dutch Legal Framework for Workers’ Rights costs € 700,- (exclusive VAT 21%). The prices include training documentation as well as free parking, lunch and drinks.
A 30% price discount applies for Sedex members (not audit companies) and groups of 3 or more attendees of the same organisation.
